Prepaid leftover is demand, not cover

How to run thisSubscriptions3 steps
CalculatorPrepaid demand vs on-hand · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

ReCharge-class prepaid means the shopper already paid for cycles not yet shipped. That leftover is demand you owe, not spare inventory. If on-hand is thinner than remaining prepaid units, you will miss ships or refund.

Pair: Prepaid demand vs on-hand on Subscriptions. Cancel dollars: prepaid cancel balance. Sellable vs inbound: receiving is not sellable.

What you type

Remaining prepaid units — cycles still to ship on live prepaid profiles (this SKU). Not billed remaining LTV dollars.

On-hand — sellable today at the warehouse that actually ships those cycles.

Shortfall = remaining − on-hand (floor at zero). We invent no calendar of when those cycles fire.

What not to do

Do not call prepaid leftover a cancel-save. Do not average catalog velocity over booked prepaid. Do not count inbound as cover. Do not skip killing MIT when you cannot ship.

Related: Subscriptions, prepaid cancel balance, days of cover, Stock.

Procedure

  1. Type remaining prepaid units on this SKU.
  2. Type sellable on-hand at the ship-from.
  3. Read shortfall. Inbound is not cover until it receives.

Failure modes

  • Calling leftover prepaid a cancel-save.
  • Counting inbound as cover for booked ships.
  • Averaging catalog velocity over prepaid demand.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ

Is this the prepaid cancel refund?
No. [Prepaid cancel balance](/manuals/prepaid-cancel-balance) is leftover dollars on a cancel. This page is leftover units you still owe to ship.
Is this days of cover?
No. [Days of cover](/manuals/days-of-cover) is on-hand ÷ sell-through vs a window you name. Prepaid demand is a booked pile, not a velocity.
Can inbound cover the prepaid pile?
Not until it is sellable. See [receiving is not sellable](/manuals/receiving-not-sellable).
