ACH return window can overlap the next rebill
ACH debits stay open for a return window. CRM can schedule the next MIT before that window closes. A return that posts after the next rebill already fired is a double hit on cash and CS. Type return-window days, next rebill day (from the debit day), and returns.
Pair: ACH return vs rebill overlap on Payments. Credit clocks: ACH return vs card refund. Auth clocks: auth / capture / settle.
What you type
Return-window days — how long this ACH class can still bounce after debit (processor writing, not a blog number).
Next rebill day — calendar day of the next CRM MIT counted from that debit day.
Returns — ACH returns you are matching to that debit cohort.
If rebill day ≤ return-window days, overlap returns = returns. Otherwise clear days = rebill day − return-window days. Push the next MIT past the window or hold the vault — do not invent a “normal” bounce %.
What not to do
Do not invent a universal NACHA day count. Do not treat card refund clocks as ACH return windows. Do not fire the next MIT while the prior debit is still open to return. Do not mix R01 / R10 piles without typing the count you mean.

- Treating card refund clocks as ACH return windows.
Worked example
None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

- What return-window days should I type?
- The window your processor / ODFI wrote for this debit class. Do not invent a universal NACHA day count.
- Can I invent an overlap rate?
- No. Type returns. Overlap returns equal that count when rebill day is inside the window.
