Split ship needs a capture plan
Partial / multi-capture is when one authorization funds more than one capture — usually because boxes ship on different days. Capture what shipped. Leave or release the rest per this gateway. That is not a void of the order, and it is not “settled” until each capture posts.

What to get in writing
Whether this MID allows partial capture after the first ship.
Whether a second capture needs a new auth if the leftover expired.
How refunds attach — to which capture, not “the order” as a vibe.
Auth expiry while inventory waits — long open holds die.
What not to do
Do not capture the full auth on day one and “fix it later” with a pretend void. Do not invent a universal multi-capture day count. Do not tell CS the unused auth is a customer refund. Do not bid media on open leftover auth.

- Capture what shipped; plan the leftover.
- Get auth expiry and re-auth rules in writing.
- Attach refunds to the right capture line.
Failure modes
- Assuming every MID allows multi-capture.
- Calling leftover auth release a customer refund.
- Full early capture then “void later.”
- Ignoring auth expiry before the second ship.

- Can I capture part of an auth when the first box ships?
- Often yes — if this gateway and issuer allow partial / multi-capture. Get it in writing. Leftover auth may still expire.
- Is releasing the unused auth the same as a void of the whole sale?
- No. You captured what shipped. Unused auth release is not undoing the captured dollars.
