Retrieval is not a chargeback

How to run thisChargebacks4 steps
GuideRetrieval vs chargeback path · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

A retrieval (request for a copy / draft) is the issuer asking what the charge was. A chargeback is the bank already taking the money back. Same case number in a portal does not make them the same job.

Pair: Retrieval vs chargeback path on Chargebacks.

Retrieval path

The issuer wants the receipt: descriptor, amount, date, goods, tracking, CS notes. You answer on the retrieval clock. A clean draft can stop the case before it becomes a chargeback. Empty tracking and a legal-entity name they never saw waste the ask.

Chargeback path

The debit already hit. Clock is the representment window. Evidence pack by family sits on evidence by reason. Fee and ratio damage are live. Do not treat this like a polite inquiry.

How to use the map

Open the case. Name which door it is. Staff retrievals for draft speed. Staff chargebacks for fight-or-refund with dollars. Alert doors (CDRN / Ethoca / RDR) are a third family — see inquiry vs alert.

Related: Chargebacks, MPA fee dictionary (retrieval vs chargeback lines).

Procedure

  1. Open the case and name the door.
  2. If retrieval, return the draft on that clock.
  3. If chargeback, fight or refund with dollars.
  4. If alert, hit the written hours — do not write a novel.

Failure modes

  • Fighting a retrieval like a chargeback novel.
  • Ignoring a retrieval until it becomes a CB.
  • Mixing alert hours with retrieval draft work.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ

Does a retrieval count on my VAMP ratio?
No. A retrieval is not a primary chargeback. Ignoring it can still become one.
Should I refund as soon as a retrieval arrives?
Only if your policy says so. First return the draft. Refund is a choice, not the retrieval itself.
Is a retrieval fee the same as a chargeback fee?
No. Schedules bill them separately. Type each line on the MPA.
