RDR — Rapid Dispute Resolution
RDR is Mastercard Rapid Dispute Resolution. The merchant pre-agrees to automatically refund a Mastercard dispute that matches rules, so it never becomes a chargeback. Enrollment is almost always through the acquirer or a Verifi / reseller seat.
Pair: RDR basics.
It fires before a primary chargeback. Most acquirer programs keep RDR out of the primary CB ratio — get that in writing. You still lose the sale and you pay a per-case fee. Mastercard does not publish a retail price; the acquirer or reseller does.
Rules are the job: amount, reason, shipped vs not. Over-broad rules refund cases you would have won. Over-narrow rules leak CBs onto the ratio. Write the sheet: RDR rules you can defend. Enroll per MID, on Mastercard volume. A Visa-only account does not belong here.
Not Ethoca (you act on an alert). Not Visa CDRN. Not 3DS. Related: refunds (it is a refund), MIDs (enrollment), payments (the fee on the statement).
Procedure
- Confirm the MID processes Mastercard.
- Enroll RDR on that MID through the acquirer or Verifi/reseller seat.
- Write rules you can defend: amount, reason, shipped vs not.
- Ask in writing whether RDR cases sit in the primary ratio.
- Watch the per-case fee plus the refund against representment win-rate on the same reasons.
Failure modes
- Rules so wide every Mastercard dispute refunds, including cases you would have won.
- Assuming RDR always drops out of the primary CB ratio without reading this acquirer’s program.
- Enrolling a brand instead of each Mastercard MID.
Worked example
None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.
