Map prevention holes on a MID

How to run thisChargebacks5 steps
GuidePrevention stack hole map · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

A prevention stack is jobs on this merchant ID, not a brand subscription. Name the account that takes next week’s volume. Tick only the jobs that run there. Unchecked is a hole. We do not fill a typical stack.

Pair: Prevention stack hole map on Chargebacks. How each product works is a different job: RDR, Ethoca, CDRN, Order Insight, 3DS.

Match the network on this MID

Mastercard volume on this account needs Mastercard tools. RDR auto-refunds matching Mastercard disputes before they become primary chargebacks. You still lose the sale and pay a per-case fee. Get the ratio rule in writing. See RDR. Automatic is the rules you wrote — rule sheet. Ethoca is the Mastercard alert. Staff it in hours, not days. Coverage is issuer-network coverage, not every Mastercard card. Measure alerts against Mastercard CBs. The gap is uncovered issuers. See Ethoca. Hours left vs missed: alert response clocks. Ticking either on a Visa-only account is a fake tick.

Visa volume on this account needs Visa tools. CDRN is the Visa alert. Not every Visa issuer participates. Do not confuse it with Order Insight. See CDRN. Verifi publishes 72 hours — type your contract on the same clocks page. Order Insight answers “what is this charge?” It is an inquiry, not a refund-or-die alert. Ticking Ethoca because you “bought Verifi” does not cover Visa. Ticking CDRN does not cover Mastercard.

3DS sits on the MID that authenticates. Liability shift is for qualifying fraud after a successful authentication. It is not an alert. It does not win not-as-described.

If this MID takes both networks, you need both sides. One seat is not both.

Descriptor and clock

Alert seats enroll a descriptor character for character. If you change what hits the statement, re-enroll the same day. A live seat on last month’s DBA is a hole on this week’s volume.

Someone has to work the queue. Ask the acquirer or reseller for this MID’s clock in writing. We do not fill hours. Tick “someone works the clock” only when a named person owns that queue. An enrolled alert with nobody watching it still becomes a chargeback. You still pay the alert fee.

Overlap is the sixth kind of hole

If two vendors bill you for the same alert, name who owns the window. Buying another seat before that is how you pay twice and still miss it.

How to use the map

Name the MID. Tick a row when that job is live on that merchant ID, the descriptor matches, and a human owns the clock. The hole list is the work. Enroll or accept the gap. Then measure alerts against bank chargebacks on the same network. The leftover is uncovered issuers.

A full set of ticks is still not 100% of volume.

This is not a buy list. Compelling Evidence 3.0 is a different job: two prior transactions. Related jobs: price the path, score a new vendor.

Related: Put the DBA on the statement, not the LLC (what the line must say), MIDs (the seat and the ratio attach here), orchestration (3DS lives on the authenticating MID).

Procedure

  1. Name the MID. Not the brand.
  2. Tick Mastercard tools only if this account takes Mastercard. Tick Visa tools only if it takes Visa.
  3. Tick descriptor match only if the seat matches what hits the statement.
  4. Tick the clock only if a named person owns the queue.
  5. The hole list is the work. Enroll or accept the gap.

Failure modes

  • Ticking a brand seat when MID B takes the volume.
  • Ticking Ethoca on a Visa-only account.
  • Assuming Ethoca covers every Mastercard issuer.
  • Leaving the descriptor stale after a DBA change.
  • Enrolling alerts with nobody on the queue.
  • Buying a new vendor before naming overlap.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

Glossary

Hole
A job that is not live on this merchant ID: missing enrollment, a descriptor that does not match the seat, or an alert queue with nobody on it.
Network match
Mastercard volume needs Ethoca and RDR. Visa volume needs CDRN and Order Insight. One network’s seat does not cover the other.

FAQ

Can I tick a corporate Ethoca seat and call every MID covered?
No. Alerts, RDR, and 3DS attach to a merchant ID. If MID B takes the volume, MID B is the row you tick.
If every layer is ticked, is coverage 100%?
No. Ethoca and CDRN miss issuers. 3DS misses shoppers who abandon. RDR only fires on rules you wrote. Measure the gap.
Do I still need CDRN if I already bought Ethoca?
Yes, if this MID takes Visa. Ethoca is Mastercard. CDRN is Visa. One network does not cover the other.
