MATCH lasts five years unless the acquirer removes you
A MATCH listing stays searchable for about five years under Mastercard’s public rules, then purges. That clock starts from the add date the bank confirms — not from a forum rumor. Early exit is not a blog trick. It is a written removal answer from the acquiring bank on the 30-day clock. How to ask is a different job: MATCH letter.
Pair: MATCH duration — claim map on MIDs.
What the public clock is
Five years searchable. Members can find the record through that window. After purge, the old listing is not the live file — underwriting can still ask about terminations.
Add date matters. Ask the bank for it. Waiting “until it ages off” without the date is guesswork.
30-day removal answer. If you request removal, the bank owes a written yes or no within 30 calendar days. A “no” still leaves the five-year clock running.
What is not a path
Entity swaps / new LLCs to hide principals. Not a removal path on this site. Do not use this page for that.
Public self-lookup. You cannot search yourself. Write the bank.
ISO or PayFac brand “clearing” you. MATCH is member-to-member. On a PayFac, name the sponsor bank first.
What not to do
Do not invent a shorter public purge. Do not treat waiting as the same as a removal request. Do not skip the letter and hope a new MID ignores the file.

Procedure
- Get the add date from the acquiring bank.
- If you want off early, send a removal request on the 30-day clock.
- Do not form a new LLC as a ‘fix.’
- Use the letter checklist when you are ready to ask.
Failure modes
- Inventing a one-year purge.
- Treating waiting as a removal request.
- Entity-swap tips.
- Skipping the letter because you ‘know the five-year rule.’
Worked example
None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

- Only through the acquiring bank’s removal path — written answer on the 30-day clock. There is no public self-service purge button.
- Can I just form a new LLC and board elsewhere?
- No. That is not a removal path on this page. Principals and prior history still surface in underwriting.
