Hold the lot when expiry is inside the gate
Nutra lots die on a date. A 3PL that picks FEFO into a gate you never wrote will still ship short-dated units into ads. Days remaining on this lot vs the written min remaining to ship is the hold. We invent no 90-day chip.
Pair: Lot expiry hold vs pick on Stock. Cover vs a promo window: days of cover. Photos at dock: pre-ship photo.
What you type
Days remaining on this lot today (label / WMS expiry minus today).
SOP min days to ship from the brand quality SOP, 3PL SLA, or retailer inbound rule. If it is not written, you cannot hold by math — write it.
Units on this lot — this lot only. Do not average lots so a short one hides.
Pick when remaining ≥ gate. Hold when remaining is short. Held units stay out of pick and out of the ad SKU until you dump, rework, or wait for a tighter gate in writing.
Operator checklist (boxes live in the SOP, not a public chip)
Lot id on the pick. Expiry scanned, not assumed. FEFO, not “whatever is in front.” Quarantine bin named. Marketplace / retailer inbound min, if any, is the tighter gate. Do not pick held units to keep velocity pretty.
What not to do
Do not invent a hold-day chip from a blog. Do not mix days-of-cover velocity into expiry. Do not ship short-dated lots into a retailer that will reject inbound. Do not count held units as sellable cover.

Worked example
None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ
- Is this days of cover?
- No. [Days of cover](/manuals/days-of-cover) is on-hand ÷ sell-through vs a sales window. This page is one lot’s expiry vs a ship gate.
- What gate should I type?
- The written SOP — brand, 3PL, or retailer min remaining at ship. We do not fill 90 days.
- Do pre-ship photos replace this hold?
- No. [Pre-ship photo](/manuals/pre-ship-photo) is evidence. This page is whether the lot may leave.
