Put a working phone or URL on the descriptor

How to run thisMIDs4 steps
GuideDescriptor phone / URL — claim map · Calculator lives in the articleOpen

The phone or URL next to the statement DBA is how a confused cardholder reaches you before they call the bank. It has to work, match the brand on the line, and land on CS (or a page that routes to CS). A pretty DBA with a dead number still becomes unrecognized chargebacks.

Pair: Descriptor phone / URL — claim map on MIDs. What the DBA should say: billing descriptor. Soft vs hard change: descriptor soft vs hard.

What belongs on the line

Phone. Answered under the same DBA. Not a personal cell that goes to voicemail forever. Not a third brand’s IVR.

URL. Short, stable, shows the charge name and how to contact CS. Not a campaign UTM that expires.

Both optional only if this acquirer omits them — still test what actually prints.

What not to do

Do not print a number nobody answers. Do not park a competitor’s support URL. Do not invent character-count chips — ask this acquirer. Do not skip same-day remap when the phone/URL on the line changes (descriptor re-enroll).

Related: MIDs, billing descriptor, descriptor soft vs hard, descriptor re-enroll.

Procedure

  1. Test the printed phone answers as this DBA.
  2. Use a stable URL that names the charge and CS path.
  3. Remap alerts the same day if the fragment changes.
  4. Keep DBA rules on the billing-descriptor page.

Failure modes

  • Dead phone next to a correct DBA.
  • Expired marketing URLs.
  • Wrong-brand IVR.
  • Changing phone/URL without same-day remap.

Worked example

None on this page yet. When one lands it will be a real case: what broke, the number, and what changed. Not a composite.

FAQ

Does a correct DBA fix unrecognized if the phone is dead?
No. Cardholders call the number on the statement. A dead or wrong-brand line still files.
Can I put a marketing landing that redirects slowly?
Prefer a page that names the charge and how to reach CS. Slow or broken URLs lose the call.
Is this the billing-descriptor checklist?
No. [Billing descriptor](/manuals/billing-descriptor) is DBA vs LLC. This page is phone / URL rules on that line.
