Retry fees stack per net approval
Every auth attempt can bill a fee. Net approvals are what you keep. Cost per net approval = (attempts × fee) ÷ approvals. Type those three — invent no approval chip.
Pair: Retry cost waterfall on Orchestration. Auth count: failover auth count. Path choice: recycle vs cascade.
What you type
Attempts — total auth attempts in the window (including retries and hops).
Fee $/attempt — what the orchestrator / gateway bills per attempt (invoice line).
Net approvals — approved counts that stuck (not soft declines that later failed).
Total fees = attempts × fee. Cost per approval = total fees ÷ approvals. Attempts per approval = attempts ÷ approvals. Cut hops when cost per approval eats contribution.
What not to do
Do not invent an approval percent. Do not ignore fee-per-attempt because the cascade “looks green.” Do not mix first-vs-net approval grain into this fee waterfall without retyping attempts. Do not treat recycle path choice as free.

FAQ
- Is this failover auth count?
- Related count. [Failover auth count](/manuals/failover-auth-count) is how many auths fire. This page prices attempts × fee ÷ net approvals.
- Is this recycle vs cascade?
- Related path. [Recycle vs cascade](/manuals/recycle-vs-cascade) chooses the hop. This page is the fee waterfall after hops already ran.
- What approval percent should I invent?
- None. Type net approvals. Cost per approval falls out of attempts and fees.
