Guest checkout lets a shopper pay without creating an account. Forced account requires signup before or during pay. Treating forced account as a fraud control is how you invent a conversion tax. Fraud filters, 3DS, and AVS/CVV are different doors.

The fork

Guest allowed. Faster path. Still run your real fraud / auth stack. Do not invent a “guest = fraud” chip.

Account optional after pay. Capture the sale first; offer account for status / reorder. Different from blocking pay until signup.

Forced account before pay. Measure abandon and approval on that path. Do not paste a forum “accounts cut CBs” number.

Subscriptions / MIT. Continuity often needs a vaulted credential — that is not the same as forcing an account on a one-shot.

What not to do

Do not invent a guest-fraud or account-save chip. Do not replace 3DS / AVS with forced signup. Do not hide the guest path behind dark patterns and call it prevention. Do not mix Amazon account rules onto DTC checkout. Do not skip measuring abandon when you flip the toggle.

  • Blocking all guest because subscriptions need MIT later.
